Bus Lane Usage

St. Patrick's School has been experiencing traffic congestion in the mornings prior to school and in the afternoons once classes are released. We have received concerns from parents and community members, and have addressed these issues with Parent Council and the Medicine Hat City Police. In order to alleviate some of the congestion, we are looking at ways to utilize the current bus lane more effectively. Currently we are reserving the bus lane for buses and delivery vehicles. We are serviced by three buses in the morning and three buses in the afternoon. The morning buses arrive between 7:45 and 8:30 in the morning, while the afternoon buses arrive between 2:55 and 3:30.

The bus lane will be open to parent traffic in the hopes of reducing traffic issues. We will allow parents to drop-off their children in the bus lane in the morning and the afternoon. We would ask that if parents see buses in the lane, to not use the bus lane. We will be montitoring the bus lane usage and traffic congestion so we can continue to evaluate it%u2019s usage. We ask that parents follow the following rules when using the bus/drop-off lane: 1. Please respect the buses. Do not use the bus lane when buses are present. Buses will be arriving on the times listed above, if we have buses that are unable to utilize the bus lane we will not be able to continue with this initiative. 2. Drivers must always remain in the vehicle. Students must exit the vehicle and either go into the school, or to the playground. If students are not able to get themselves out of the vehicle and into the school/playground on their own, please park elsewhere and escort your child in.The bus lane is not a parking lot, traffic will flow through the lane and parked vehicles will disrupt this from happening. Please pull to the furthest end of the bus lane. Do not stop right in front of the doors, please pull ahead so that we can fit as many vehicles as possible in the bus lane.
